Glory-of-the-Snow

This bulbous perennial is native to west Turkey. After flowering in early spring, it goes into dormancy until the following spring. The Latin name (luciliae) was given in honour of Lucile, the wife of the Swiss botanist Pierre Edmond Boissier. The outer part of each petal is violet-blue with a white base, creating a white 'eye' at the bloom's center. In Conservatory Garden, glory-of-the-snow can be found on the Woodland Slope.
