Wagner Cove Boat Landing

Located in an intimate spot along the southernmost edge of the Lake, the Wagner Cove Boat Landing is one of five small structures located along the shoreline that offer visitors a place for rest, reflection, and beautiful views.

Designed in the rustic style to harmonize with the surrounding scenery, it recalls the other rustic architecture in the Park.

This boat landing is a modern reconstruction of a historic structure that was built in the 1860s. Soon after the Park opened, boating on the Lake became a popular pastime. The Park’s designers added a series of six unique structures that served as scenic lookouts and small docks for boaters. A passenger boat made a circuit around the Lake transporting visitors between the landings and Bethesda Terrace.

Constructed of wood, the original boat landings deteriorated over time and were periodically rebuilt during the 19th century. Most of them were removed during the 20th century. In 2016, the Central Park Conservancy reconstructed five of the landings based on a careful analysis of historic drawings and photographs.

The boat landing is tucked into the shore of dense green flora that surrounds the Lake.
