Summerhouse in the Ramble
The Summerhouse is a rustic shelter located in the center of the Ramble, the Park’s most well-known woodland landscape.
It’s the only remaining of four similar structures that existed in the Ramble, created to provide shelter and a place to rest and enjoy the scenery. Its intricate design and construction with rough-hewn red cedar wood was intended to blend in with the picturesque surroundings. Like the other rustic structures in the Park, it’s been rebuilt and repaired over the years by the Central Park Conservancy. Analysis of the structure revealed that the posts may be original.
